IDYLL--WILD






Shattering was the shock;  they shunned nothing
Where the shrubs brightly shone under the shimmering
      trees.
The Roman ranks retreated a little,
Giving ground in their rearguard’s direction.

So rapidly they rode that the air rang
With the sound of steel and spikes and splendid gold mail.
