Over Under Sideways Down

Over under sideways down,
Backwards forwards square and round.
Over under sideways down,
Backwards forwards square and round.

When will it end, when will it end?
When will it end, when will it end?

  1. Didn't you once (as in very long ago) write a poem called Over Under Sideways Down that began "Over. Under. Sideways. Down"?

  2. It's possible. If I did, it's lost in the Riley-whorls of my brain. I do think that Keith Relf wrote some excellent lyrics (Mister You're A Better Man Than I, Heartful of Soul, Shapes Of Things, this song). I wonder what would have become of him had he not passed away? Oh well. Curtis

  3. The not bad recent movie London Boulevard features as its title music Heartful of Soul. Sounds great still.

I love Bridget. A couple of her prints are on the wall outside my office at work. Another hangs in Roxbury.

Last week at Phillips I tried to buy the black-backed print of Coeurs Volants from 1968, the original of which you once said was the first piece of op art. Still seems right.

    Keith looked great in sunglasses.

  4. Bridget is really, really great. Your life (in some of the parts of it that you confide) sounds like where I would like to be. Ah well -- trying to find my way back to the road at the moment. Ketih was supposed to have been (pardon the oversimplification) the "real" Johnny Rotten, a completely over-the-top born punk. People have criticized his vocal limitations relative to some of his contemporaries like Rod Stewart, Jack Bruce, etc., but I really love the way he made The Yardbirds sound. All the press attention always goes to the guitarists in the band, but they really transcended single member contributions and left an enduring band legacy. You probably know this, but Iggy Pop observed that he drew his "heartful of napalm" image and lyric from "Heartful of Soul." He asked himself, "well, what is MY heart full of," derived the answer and was off to the races. Curtis
