LONDON.- May 9, 1874.-
Howard Carter was an English archaeologist and Egyptologist, noted as a
primary discoverer of the tomb of Tutankhamun. On 4 November 1922,
Carter's water carrier found the steps leading to Tutankhamun's tomb
(subsequently designated KV62), by far the best preserved and most
intact pharaonic tomb ever found in the Valley of the Kings. In this

NOTE: Since we're just
finishing up proofreading Jane's History term paper on the 18th Dynasty
pharoahs Akhenaten, Tutankhamun and Horemheb, this item, from the wonderful
ArtDaily.org's "On A Day Like Today" section, jumped out at me and
asked to be shared with anyone unaware of this anniversary. Happy 138th
birthday, Howard Carter. You're getting up there.
