BELTED GALLOWAYS

Passing through Ephrata on my way back to Hershey early yesterday morning (after checking in on our cats in Berwyn just after dawn), I saw a magnificent herd of Belted Galloway cattle and thought about Charles Sheeler's 1934 painting Ephrata (below), which still gives a generally good picture of the way the land and buildings light in that part of the world.

For a while, the day seemed to be developing nicely -- better than had been predicted.  Then some slippage, then some slight shifting back.
